What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a guided re-educational process wherein the student discovers and re-familiarizes him/herself regarding habitual movement and patterning; observing how self-awareness and mental process govern balanced and functional whole-body coordination. It works toward increased awareness and effective coordination of psycho-physical mechanisms and an improved ‘use of the self’. Alexander Technique is a method of psycho-physical re-education; an educational process where the student learns about his or her own movement patterns and how thinking directs movement coordination.
“The purpose of the Alexander Technique is to help people unlearn maladaptive physical habits and return to a balanced state of rest and poise…” [Gray, John (1990); Your guide to the Alexander technique]
